snapshots from the scenic byway

I'm here tonight to plant
an unkind kiss on
the windshield

free the
luminiscent moths
of superstition

let's quit using
the moon as an excuse
for our behavior

no more jake brakes, babe
we surpassed the speed of caring
at the flying J

your worries
on the wheel, she laid
a stoned but steady hand

"oh, look..."

as if at a passing cloud

"the speedometer"

you scream
and like it
for what it is

sibilance the last
slip of the lips

a smile in the side mirror
and now you're
showing teeth

because this needed a comment:

bwb
when I write
I am he
but he is
never me
can't see
who I be
how I fill
my days
to pay bills
the hot bar
I wipe down
mundanely
over 50 times
daily, thankfully
he isn't me
but sometimes
you see
I am he.
